Product Description

The Sony Walkman NW-A307 is a 64GB high-resolution digital audio player from Sony's A300 series, finished in black. It runs Android 12 with Google Play access, so streaming apps such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and LINE MUSIC can be installed and played directly on the device alongside locally stored audio files. The player has a 3.6-inch touchscreen and connects via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or USB-C.

Sound Quality

The NW-A307 uses Sony's S-Master HX full-digital amplifier, a proprietary architecture that keeps the audio signal in the digital domain until the output stage. It is paired with DSEE Ultimate, Sony's real-time AI upscaling technology, which analyzes the type of music being played and applies upscaling over both wired and Bluetooth connections. Sony designs the A300 series for higher sound quality than a smartphone. Internally, the unit uses gold-added solder for its hand- and reflow-soldered joints, a construction method carried over from Sony's flagship WM1 and ZX Walkman lines. The 3.5mm headphone jack is a 4-pole design with a reinforced ground connection. The player also supports 360 Reality Audio, with a rated frequency response of 20Hz–40,000Hz. On the device itself, native DSD playback is supported at 2.8224/5.6448/11.2896MHz.

Connectivity

For wireless listening, the NW-A307 supports SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC Bluetooth codecs; LDAC can transmit up to about 3x the bitrate of standard Bluetooth codecs. Wi-Fi is built in to support downloading and updating apps directly on the device. Connected to a computer via its USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen 1) port, the NW-A307 also functions as a USB DAC, supporting PCM up to 384kHz/32-bit (automatically downconverted above 352.8kHz) and DSD RAW up to 11.2MHz/1-bit. A microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC card slot allows storage to be expanded beyond the built-in 64GB.

Battery Life

Battery life depends on which app and file format is handling playback. Using Sony's built-in W.Music app with local files, the NW-A307 is rated for up to approximately 36 hours with CD-quality WAV or FLAC (44.1kHz/16-bit), or with compressed MP3/AAC files; higher-resolution FLAC and DSD files reduce this figure. When playing through a third-party streaming app installed on the device, such as Spotify or Apple Music, battery life is rated at up to approximately 26 hours. A full charge via USB-C takes approximately 3.5 hours.
